Finding the patient
To send an information article to a patient, first search for and select the patient from the list on the left hand side of the dashboard.
Once you have selected the patient from the list you will see their details in the right-hand pane. Before proceeding, double check that the details match those of the patient you intend to send the article to.
If the patient details are incorrect or outdated, please refer to our guide on updating incorrect patient details before proceeding as this information is used to verify the patients' identity when accessing the article.
Search for the article to send
Select the "New consent session" button in the main patient page, and then search for the procedure you would like to send in the “Which EIDO article would you like to send?” field. You can type in the name of a medical procedure, or the EIDO document code.
For example: “hernia” will bring up all available procedures for hernias. Or an EIDO document code such as GS11 will bring up the ‘Open Inguinal Hernia Repair (female)’ article.
If you would like to send the consent form along with the article, toggle the switch to include the draft consent form.
If the procedure has a laterality, you will be asked to select this for the draft consent form, and can optionally defer the decision until a later time
You can select multiple procedures, but you will need to send each through to the patient individually.
To do this, after the first article has been sent simply repeat the process above for each procedure which requires patient consent.
Sending draft consent forms
It is possible to send articles through to patients and then follow up with a draft consent form at a later time. Use the process which works best for your workflow.
To send a draft consent form to a patient, they must have an active consent session. Search for and select the patient from the list on the left hand side of the dashboard. Locate the existing procedure for which to send the draft consent form. These are shown as a list of cards in the patient view.
There are two ways to send the consent form. Either click on ‘Send Draft Consent Form’ on the procedure card, or click on the ‘OPTIONS’ menu on the card then select ‘Send Draft Consent Form’.
You can also use this options menu to re-send the link if the patient says they have not received it, or expire the link if the patient no longer requires access to the article.
What will the patient see?
The patient will receive an email or SMS with a link to access their article. They click through and will be asked to verify their identity, before continuing to read the article and complete the draft consent form.
